Our Foundation

About Our Foundation

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Hilton sponsors and funds several children’s charities in Newport News and the surrounding area. To provide flexibility in funding such programs, the members of our club created the Kiwanis Club of Greater Hilton Foundation as the Club’s tax-exempt charitable arm. The Foundation is duly incorporated as a non-profit corporation in the Commonwealth of Virginia and meets the tax-exempt requirements of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. As a tax-exempt organization, the Foundation pays no income taxes and is eligible to receive “tax-deductible” contributions.

The Foundation recognizes the challenges and promises of the youth in our city and has made its mission to stand with those young people by providing means and support for their well- being, health, and education. Our Foundation has contributed locally in the following ways:

  • Provided scholarships to local children to attend local summer camp.
  • Installed a teacher’s lounge at Carver Elementary School.
  • Supported Carver Elementary School’s efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism by providing a monthly $50 gift card to use as attendance incentives for students. Chronic absenteeism dropped from 31% in the 23-24 school year to 19% in the 24-25 school year!
  • Offered financial support to the following local organizations:
    • The Boys and Girls Club
    • The Shoe Lady (an organization that provides shoes to
      needy children)
    • The Young Adult Police Commissioners

Donating to Our Foundation

Officers and directors of the Foundation are elected by the members of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Hilton and contribute their time as volunteers.

The Foundation is required to file annual reports with the state and federal governments to ensure proper stewardship of its funds and strict compliance with its charitable mission. Copies of organizational and governing documents, as well as financial statements and reports, are available upon request.

The Foundation continually seeks opportunities to promote its mission and receives its funding from the community and the members of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Hilton. The Foundation earnestly invites individual and corporate contributions to make its work possible.
